S.K. Somaiya College Library aims to serve the needs of students, faculty and staff members of the library. The library is located in the Aurobindo building and is spread across two floors over 835 sq. mtr., with a seating capacity for more than 100 students. the main library is located on the third floor Reference section and Reading area (493sq.m.) of the institutional building and Circulation Section (342sq.m.) is located on the first floor of the building.

The library provides a comprehensive collection of literature predominantly related to arts and humanities to meet the present and future information needs of it’s users. The library also provides online access to various open access resources which includes E-books, E-Journals, Thesis and Dissertation and audio-visual material. The library also helps it’s users to be connected to the library from anywhere by providing remote access and logging in through SVV Net ID.

General Rules
  • Silence shall be observed strictly by both students and staff members in the reading and reference areas of the library.
  • Consumption of food and drinks is not permitted in the library,
  • Library will not accept responsibility for the loss or misplacement of any personal Belongings of users.
  • Before entering the library students should switch off their cell phones.
  • Tearing of pages from books and newspapers is strictly prohibited and is punishable

Library Hours

The library remains open on all the working days except holidays as notified by the college.

Circulation of Books

For UG student:
  • Two books for a period of seven days.
  • Once issued such books cannot be returned on the same day
For PG student:
  • Four books for a period of seven days.
  • Once issued such books cannot be returned on the same day.
  • One book and one CD are allowed overnight from Reference Section after 3.00pm and are to be returned before 10.30am on the next library working day, failing which a fine will be charged at the rate of Rs.10/- per day for UG & PG students.
For Ph.D student:
  • Four books for a period of seven days.
  • Once issued such books cannot be returned on the same day.
For PG student:
  • A fine will be charged at the rate of Rs.02/- per day for UG, PG and Ph.D students.
  • The library software is programmed to calculate overdue fine of maximum 365 days excluding Sundays and all holidays.
  • Librarian has authority to cancel library overdue fine in case of system failure, human errors or any other medical reason of the users with approval letter from the Principal.
  • As per the college administration only account section of the office has right to collect all library overdue fines. Library does not collect any refundable advance amount as overdue fine from students.

Due to the pandemic situation students cannot avail the above facility but the below online facilities can be accessed by students, faculty and staff members.

  • These Databases are Subscribed by Somaiya Vidyavihar University Campus. The databases are available for students and faculty members on one platform through Remote-Xs.
