Proviso to relaxation of eligibility criteria on case to case basis

Fixed eligibility criteria regarding the subjects in the qualifying examinations will be relaxed in special cases, on a case-to-case basis, with the condition that the admitted candidates take up the necessary bridge/supplementary courses necessary for effective understanding and learning in the core subjects of the admitted programme. The content and depth of the bridge courses and additional subjects in such cases will be decided by the relevant Board of Studies.

  • A candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination in Commerce/Science and in one or the first attempt. He must have must have obtained a minimum of 55% aggregate marks for being eligible to BAF/BAF (Honours)/BBF/BFM/Bcom (Honours) program.
  • A candidate who has passed 10+2 or equivalent examination from IB Board should be either IB certificate or DP awarded with 24 credits having passed 3 HL (Higher Level) (12 credits) & 3 SL (Standard Level) (9 credits) mandatorily from any stream.
  • 5% relaxation will be given to outstanding Sports Persons at national or international level subject to the verification by the admission committee.
  • In case, mark sheet issued by the applicable Board / Institution is in percentile/s, theactual aggregate percentage of all the subjects appeared by the candidate will be takeninto consideration.
  • Foreign students/candidates who have completed their (10+2) examination from Overseas Universities are eligible if they meet the eligibility requirements as prescribed by the various statutory bodies in India and if they get an ‘Equivalency Certificate’ for certain qualifications from the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi.
  • Candidates above 21 years of age are not eligible to apply. A 5 years relaxation is permitted for differently abled and 3 years for women students.
  • Those candidates who have passed, or, are appearing for 10+2 examination from a Board/University where Grade Point Average is given, such candidates must produce in writing from the Board/University concerned, the equivalent percentage for the GPA /CGPA obtained.
  • Candidate whose final mark sheet is not available at the time of admission is requiredto submit internet copy of result duly attested by Principal of the school / college, failing which candidate will not be admitted for the program.
  • Only single mark sheet with all compulsory subjects taken and passed in only one andthe first attempt is mandatory, no compartmentalized mark sheet will be considered.
  • Candidate will not be eligible if any subject is marked as ungraded/fail in marksheet / grade sheet.
  • Candidates appearing for their final 10+2 or equivalent examination can also apply provided they must obtain the required minimum cut off marks and also produce the entire necessary Documents, in original, within the given stipulated time.
  • Equivalency Certificate - It is issued for the students having obtained their degrees from Foreign accredited/approved/ recognized institutes.

  • A candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination in Commerce/ Science/Arts and in one or the first attempt and must have obtained a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.
  • The stream wise weightage to be given is as under:
    Commerce – 50%
    Arts- 20%
    Science- 25%
    Diploma- 5%

  • A candidate for being eligible for admission to the three years integrated programme leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science (BSc) must have passed and obtained a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination (Std XII) conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education OR its equivalent in any stream from any board of any State, with Mathematics as one of its subject.
  • If there is a tie, then merit to be arrived at on the basis of Mathematics marks.

  • A candidate for being eligible for admission to the three years integrated programme leading to the degree of Bachelor of Computer Applications must have passed and obtained a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination (Std XII) conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education OR its equivalent in any stream from any board of any State, with English and Mathematics as one of the subjects.
  • If there is a tie, then merit to be arrived at on the basis of Mathematics marks

  • A candidate for being eligible for admission to the three years integrated programme leading to the degree of B.Sc Computer Science (Honours) must have passed and obtained a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination (HSC/CBSE/other any other equivalent board) conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education with English and Mathematics as one of its subject.
  • Only Science stream students are eligible to apply.
  • Admission will be on merit. If there is a tie, then merit to be arrived on the basis of Mathematics marks.
  • Lateral entry in second year of course is permitted for student with minimum 50% aggregate marks in Diploma (Engineering) (Computer Science/Information Technology/Electronics and telecommunication or equivalent) (3 years after 10th) OR Diploma in Computer Science / Information Technology (2 years/ 3 year after 10+2) or equivalent. However, the Diploma should be recognized by the Board of Technical Education or any other recognized Government Body.

  • A candidate for being eligible for admission to the three years programme leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science (BSc) with Honours (Honours) must have passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination (Std XII) conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education OR its equivalent in science stream from any board of any State, with minimum 50% marks in PCB.
  • A candidate must have completed compulsorily during this tenure of 10+2 years course in biology.
  • Those candidates who did not have Mathematics at 10 + 2 level have to mandatorily complete the General elective on ‘Introductory mathematics for life scientists’ offered in this programme.

  • For B.Sc in Economics, a candidate must have passed Higher Secondary School Certificate (Std.12) conducted by any State, Central Board in Commerce/Science/Arts in the first attempt. He/She must have obtained a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
  • A candidate who has passed 10+2 or equivalent examination from IB Board should be either IB certificate or DP awarded with 24 credits having passed 3 HL (Higher Level) (12 credits) & 3 SL (Standard Level) (9 credits) mandatorily from any stream.

  • A candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination in Commerce/ Science/Arts stream and must have obtained a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.

 

Interim Admissions (A.Y. 2023-24) are open for First year of Undergraduate programmes at S K Somaiya College of Somaiya Vidyavihar University.

Interim Admission (Phase 1)

Interim Admission i.e. Phase 1 of the admission process is the phase before the declaration of 12th or equivalent exam result.

Interim Admission means a provision to secure the seat on the basis of 10th and 11th class final examination results, if the applicant is selected as per the admission merit process and completes the required payment of fees. Applicants will be considered eligible for Interim Admission if they have successfully completed their 10th and 11th class final examination. The selection criteria will be based on the merit as per the weighted average i.e.70:30 proportion of 10th and 11th class final result score respectively.

However, Applicants who are selected for interim admission will be eligible to confirm his/her interim admission only if he/she passes 12th standard (or equivalent) final examination and qualifies as per the conditions laid under eligibility criteria and completes the balance fee payment of the concerned programme.

Note: A student can pursue one full time major undergraduate programme of the college. However students can pursue dual degrees subject to regulation stated in accordance with.

Provisional Admission (Phase 2)

Provisional Admission i.e. Phase 2 of the admission process is the phase after the declaration of 12th or equivalent exam result.

Provisional admission indicates that admission is offered to the applicant on the basis of merit of 12th class or equivalent final examination and is provisional in nature until the payment of required fees is made as per the schedule in order to confirm the admission for the concerned programme.

Applicants will be considered eligible for Provisional Admission if they have successfully completed their 12th class or equivalent final examination. The selection criteria will be based purely on the merit basis.

However, Applicants who are selected for provisional admission will be eligible to confirm his/her provisional admission only if he/she qualifies as per the conditions laid under the eligibility criteria and completes the payment of required fees as per the schedule for the concerned programme.

Note: A student can pursue one full time major undergraduate programme of the college. However students can pursue dual degrees subject to regulation stated in accordance with.

Submission of   500   towards registration of undergraduate programme pre-admission form through the online payment gateway.

A student should apply separately for each programme if desiring to fill the form for multiple programmes.

An interim admission will be offered based on the merit and availability of seats taken together. The candidate will be communicated via email about his/her admission status.

A candidate who is offered an interim admission needs to pay   50000  as per stipulated admission schedule to  secure the same.

Payment of the balance fees to confirm the Interim admission if the candidate qualifies the 12th grade or equivalent examination as per rules and regulations. The payment of next instalment of balance fees will be within seven days from the date of 12th grade / equivalent exam result declaration.

  • The College or the Management does not accept any donation or capitation fees for any admission. The admission to students is given as per the standard and transparent procedures. Any person approaching the students or parents for donation/capitation fees should be reported to the Head of Institution immediately.
  • The Head of Institution reserves the right to amend or modify the rules regarding admission, as and when such amendments and guidelines are received from the UGC, the Government or the Management. The Head of Institution also reserves the right to refuse admission, if in his/her opinion; such an admission is likely to adversely affect the overall discipline of the college.
  • Admission preference will be given to students who have passed the eligibility qualification in the preceding academic year.
  • The final admissions will be based on the fulfilment of eligibility criteria and the merit in the qualifying examination as per the eligibility criteria.
  • All admissions are on first come first serve basis.
  • All the admissions are online.
  • Candidate who does not pay the requisite amount as per the  deadline will lose his/her claim on the offered seat during that  phase.
  • A candidate who has been allotted a provisional/ confirmed seat and fails to secure the same within the  deadline, his/her candidature will not be considered in further  rounds of that phase.
  • At any point of time, candidates will not be permitted to hold two seats in college.
  • A student has to submit all the relevant documents / certificates / marksheets as per the list displayed on web site.
  • Non-submission of such mandatory documents after the stipulated time declared by admission department will lead to cancellation of admission of concerned student and the admission fees will NOT be refunded. If the student has submitted documents and found discrepancy during verification, the admission would be cancelled and fees will be forfeited.
  • Cancellation rules are available on the website for reference.

Cancellation Policy for Interim Admission (Phase 1 admitted students)

This cancellation policy is applicable from the date of Interim Admission till 7 days after declaration of result of HSC or equivalent examination but before the confirmation of admission.

An interim admission seat in Phase 1 will be offered based on the merit and availability of seats taken together. A candidate who is offered an interim admission seat needs to pay   50000 in case of Undergraduate programme as per stipulated admission schedule to secure an interim admission.

If candidate chooses to withdraw from the programme of study and application for cancellation of an interim admission is received before the confirmation of admission, then the following cancellation charges will be applicable:

Cancellation Policy for Confirmed Admission (Phase 2 onwards admitted students)

This cancellation policy is applicable from the date of confirmation of admission.

For cancellation of admission, the student needs to submit the cancellation request online through myaccount portal. Once the cancellation request is approved the refund amount is credited to the student (as per bank accounts details given in myaccount portal) according to the percentages given in the below table.

The Refund Policy Schedule:

  • If a student chooses to withdraw from the program of study in which he / she is enrolled, the institution shall follow the following four-tier system for the refund of fees remitted by the student.

Payment of fees:
The promoted students for the subsequent years are required to pay the fees as per the email received from the college. Late fee of 50 will be levied per day if the fee is not paid within the due date. Non-payment of fees within the stipulated time including the late fee period will attract cancellation of the studentship from that program.

After commencement of any programme, if a student wants to take a break for certain valid reason, then he/she can do so as per the following norms :

The academic break can be granted to any student by HOI and the maximum period for an academic break is one year only. This will be based on HOI getting convinced of the reason for academic break.

Eligibility for academic break:

  • Serious personal medical reasons involving hospitalization, if required and supported by documents.
  • Serious ‘family’ related issues.
  • Financial constraints.
 

The HOI will approve the academic break and forward the application of the student to admission department for necessary process.

The academic break can be granted to any student at best twice during the programme as long as the total period of academic break is not exceeding one year and not exceeding the validity period of that programme.

  • Payment of Fees for the academic break: If the student has informed the HOI regarding academic break before the commencement of the relevant year and not paid the total fee for that year, then if his academic break is granted, he can pay the total fee (100%) prevalent at that time when he seeks re-admission.
  • If a student wants to take academic break after the commencement of the academic year, but he has not attended the classes and if the fee is not paid, then while seeking re-admission he has to pay the total fee (100%) plus 25% of the total fee as re-admission fee to continue his studentship.
  • If the student has paid the total fee for the entire year and then sought the academic break after commencement of that academic year in the middle of semester again, then he has to pay 25% of the total fee prevalent at that time, towards re-admission in subsequent year.

  • NRI: Non Resident Indian as per the definition given in the section 6 of the Income Tax Act 1961. ‘NRI Candidate’ means a candidate who is a child/ward of the person who has the ‘NRI status’ as defined under section 6 of the Income Tax Act.

  • Parents, grandparents, parents’ real brothers/sisters or candidate’s real brothers/sisters holding NRI status can sponsor.

Location details of the college

S K Somaiya College is about 5 km from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai India and is about 25 km from the Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (formerly VT station). It is in the heart of the Mumbai city and is very well connected by road as well as local trains to the entire country.

About NRI/PIO/CIWGC/FN Admissions

Yes, the blood relative can sponsor education of a candidate.

No. A foreign student (citizen) can study at S K Somaiya College only with a 'Student Visa'. If the foreign citizen is of Indian origin, then he/she can apply and get a PIO (People of Indian Origin) Card or OCI (Overseas Citizen of India). Students with PIO or OCI can study in India without a student visa.

You can apply for a Student Visa in your nearest Indian Embassy or Consulate. You will have to apply for a Student Visa based on the confirmed admission letter issued by the International Admissions Cell of S K Somaiya College.

No. There is no entrance test.

Undergraduate programme admissions are given on the basis of the 12th standard or equivalent examination’s marks. . The candidate can be from CBSE, ICSE or any other board which is considered as equivalent

Yes. The course / tuition fee is to be paid in Indian Rupees (INR). However, the fee amount has to be paid from NRE or Foreign Account.

  • Additional Document to be submitted by FN

No. Candidates/ Parents should directly contact the International admission cell of the college for any information on NRI/PIO/ CIWGC /FN admission. S K Somaiya College in any way, will not be responsible if candidates apply through agents.

    • The candidate needs to pay INR 1500 for programme as Application form processing fee at the time of submission of application form. Please find the details in the payment section below.
    • After completion of payment upload the scan copy of acknowledgement
    • The candidate will have to pay a fee of INR 1,00,000 (Provisional admission), ONLY WHEN A PROVISIONAL SEAT IS OFFERED while accepting the offered seat.
    • Candidate needs to confirm the Provisional admission within four working days of declaration of result of H.S.C(for Undergraduate Program Admission )or Final Year Bachelor Degree(for Postgraduate Program Admission) or equivalent examination, by paying balance fees. Else, the candidate loses the claim on the offered seat
    • Cancellation rules are applicable as per existing SVU cancellation rules available on college website sksc.somaiya.edu
